No matter what you may read, the truth is that there is no easy path when it comes to CAPM exam readiness. Most students need 3-6 months of study before they’re ready to sit for the exam. What’s true of most, of course, isn’t true for all: some applicants will fall onto either side of that average, and a full 50% will never sit for the exam at all.

Benefits of Attending a CAPM Boot Camp

It doesn’t matter what you’re preparing for; one thing is always true: it’s easier to plan it than to do it. When you spend your days making crucial decisions, your well-laid plans often fall victim to diminished self-discipline by nightfall. Sure, you know you should be studying, but that knowledge doesn’t make it any easier to summon the motivation to do it night after night. An accelerated in-person CAPM Certification Boot Camp takes the temptation to postpone test prep off of the table and, instead, gives you space to immerse yourself in the materials. Our courses are designed to remove the distractions of your everyday life so you can fully focus your time and attention on the coursework and be exam-ready in less time than if you’d studied on your own

Our 3 day CAPM Boot Camp course gives you more than mere exposure to the fundamentals and concepts on the test. It provides a focused educational experience with a rigorous schedule. Throughout the course, you’ll talk through the concepts and situations with your instructor and peers so you can ground your learning and recall it when you need it.

Many an enthusiastic applicant has been struck down by the jargon-heavy style of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). Interacting with an expert instructor who can translate the language into practical terms helps to ensure you grasp the content and lets you test your understanding. Studying with a group of your peers in a classroom environment can also help build and maintain your motivation for the exam. It’s easy to get distracted and lose focus when you’re alone at your desk with a book. Studying with others who share your goals can help keep you accountable and sustain or stimulate determination.

Your years of practical experience are the most valuable thing you bring to your role. Without them, you wouldn’t be qualified to sit for the CAPM exam in the first place. Distilling what you know from doing into the foundations and principles on the CAPM exam, however, can challenge even the most experienced project managers. Your CAPM Certification Training Instructor will help you connect your experience to the exam materials, putting what you’ve learned on the job into context so you can apply it on the exam.

Your Certified trainer is an expert project manager with in depth understanding of the training materials but also in exam readiness. Every student who enrolls in and completes the Certification Academy Boot Camp receives one-on-one guidance from their trainer and an individualized learning plan based on their current proficiency and progress towards their education requirements.

How Hard is the CAPM Exam?

The Project Management Institute (PMI) doesn’t try to hide the truth about the degree of difficulty required to pass CAPM Certification exam: it’s a tough test, and many aspiring students walk away from it with a failing score. They’re not failing because they didn’t care or didn’t see the value in preparing. It doesn’t matter how much time or effort you commit to exam prep: if you don’t know what to study, achieving a passing score is highly unlikely.

You don’t do your job by reading a situational question and picking from among the available answers, so applying your real-world project management experience to the CAPM exam can be a significant challenge. For project managers looking for a way to overcome this obstacle, a CAPM Certification Boot Camp, like the 3-day intensive offered by Certification Academy, provides a practical, streamlined solution.

What's the difference between CAPM and PMP?

Understanding the Differences Between CAPM and PMP Certifications

Navigating the world of project management certifications can be daunting. Two of the most recognized credentials are the CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) and PMP (Project Management Professional). Here’s how they differ:

Target Audience

  • CAPM is ideal for those new to project management or professionals seeking foundational knowledge. It’s geared towards entry-level project managers or individuals with minimal project management experience.
  • PMP, conversely, is designed for seasoned project management professionals. It caters to those with significant practical experience and leadership abilities, ready to dive into the complexities of advanced project management.

Level of Expertise

  • CAPM covers basic concepts and terminologies of project management. It provides a solid introduction, focusing on the core principles and processes of the discipline.
  • PMP demands a comprehensive understanding of in-depth methodologies, advanced strategies, and leadership skills crucial for managing large-scale projects. This certification showcases a high degree of expertise and commitment.

Industry Value

  • CAPM is valuable for demonstrating dedication and a foundational understanding of project management, potentially opening doors to entry-level roles in the industry.
  • PMP holds higher prestige and is widely recognized across industries. It is often seen as a benchmark for project management excellence, typically required for senior positions and commanding higher salaries.

Prerequisites

  • CAPM requires a secondary degree (high school diploma or equivalent) and at least 23 hours of project management education.
  • PMP necessitates approximately 7,500 hours of project leadership experience and 35 hours of project management education or a four-year degree with 4,500 hours in leading projects.

Both certifications offer unique benefits and serve different career needs, depending on where you are in your professional journey

Does CAPM Expire or have to be renewed?

Understanding CAPM Certification Validity and Renewal Process

Validity Period

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) certification is valid for a period of three years from the date of issuance. This means that every three years, holders of the certification must take steps to ensure their certification remains current.

Renewal Process

To renew your CAPM® certification, it is essential to complete 15 professional development units (PDUs) within each three-year cycle. These PDUs can be gained through various professional activities and educational endeavors that contribute to your project management skills.

Renewal Costs

If you’re a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI®), you will benefit from a reduced renewal fee of $60. For those who are not members, the renewal cost is $150.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can maintain your CAPM® certification and continue to be recognized as a qualified project management professional.

Does my job title have to be Project Manager?

No. Your job title in your organization doesn’t matter.

What if I haven't managed all parts of a project?

It does not matter if you have managed a complete project or parts of a project. As long as you get 23 hours of formal prohect management education, you can apply to sit for the exam.

Do I have to be a PMI Member?

The answer is no, PMI membership is not mandatory. There are a few benefits to becoming a member:

PMI members receive a significant discount on their CAPM exam application fee. This discount is greater than what it costs to become a PMI member.
PMI members receive a free PDF copy of the PMBOK Guide.
It is easier to maintain your CAPM Certification by using free resources and tools available to you, as a PMI member.

Additionally, many local PMI chapters offer discounts to workshops, chapter meetings and events to PMI members.

Do I need to renew my PMI membership to stay certified?

You do not have to be a PMI member to remain CAPM certified, nor do you need to be a PMI member to get your certification. Many project managers join PMI as they are prepare for the exam because they receive a substantial discount on the exam fees.

CAPM certification holders need to earn 15 PDUs every three years to maintain the certification.

Some of my experience is from a company that is no longer in business. Can I use that?

PMI understands that some project work and education is hard to validate.  Ideally, you should try and obtain contact information from someone in authority who was a part of the company when you were and can validate your time and training. It doesn’t need to be a formal organizational representative however, a colleague or past co-worker is suitable.

How long does it take to process the application?

Online applications are typically processed within five business days. Individual applications submitted by mail take approximately 10 business days. Corporate applications submitted by mail take 20 business days. Once the application and fee have been processed, PMI will electronically send the Examination Scheduling Instructions, confirming that the applicant is eligible to take the exam.

What is an Audit and How will I know if I’m selected?

PMI routinely conducts random audits on a certain percentage of the CAMP certification applications. Although PMI does not publish what percentage gets audited, the general consensus is around 10-15% off applicants get selected at random for audit. PMI will notify if your application is selected for an audit, as soon as you submit your application. You will also receive an email from PMI with links to complete the audit. PMI’s officially says that it takes 5-7 days to approve the application. However, it can be approved within only a couple of days if the necessary documents are submitted quickly.

How long is my eligibility good for?

Eligibility is good for one year from the day that the application was approved. The exam may be taken three times within the eligibility period should applicants not pass on the first attempt. In some cases if you have a need to extend your eligibility, PMI will grant a 2-3 month extension.
