The CAMP™ Methodology
How Certification Academy teaches: coaching, application, mastery, and performance, delivered in an intensive, instructor-led format.
What CAMP is
CAMP is the teaching framework behind our instructor-led boot camps. It describes how we teach, not what we teach. The content comes from the certifying body’s current exam outline for whichever certification you are preparing for, and CAMP shapes how that content is explained, practiced, and retained. It is not specific to one exam, one certifying body, or one field.
CAMP stands for Coaching, Application, Mastery, and Performance. Each part answers a specific problem working professionals face when they prepare for a certification exam while holding down a job.
The four parts of CAMP
C
Coaching
Expert instruction that adapts to your questions.
In class
- Instructors spot knowledge gaps as they appear
- Harder topics get clarified on the spot
- Your real-world experience is connected to how the exam frames its questions
Why it helps
Exam questions test judgment. A coach can correct a misunderstanding the moment it shows up, instead of after you have practiced it the wrong way.
A
Application
Practice that mirrors how the exam asks questions.
In class
- Hands-on exercises tied to the exam’s topics
- Scenario-based practice and pattern recognition for how the exam frames its questions
- Visual frameworks that organize complex concepts
- An exam simulator designed to mirror the format and difficulty of the real exam
Why it helps
Certification exams are not tests of memorization. They ask you to apply concepts to realistic situations, so that is how you practice.
M
Mastery
Depth through focused immersion.
In class
- Class days free from emails, calls, and work emergencies
- A concentrated format that builds momentum instead of losing it between scattered sessions
- Exam simulator access so practice continues after class
Why it helps
Concentrated time with the material helps concepts connect, and a fixed schedule creates accountability while the material is fresh.
P
Performance
Confidence you can measure.
In class
- Peer learning alongside other professionals, with discussion that surfaces different perspectives
- A readiness assessment that shows where you stand by topic
- Your instructor’s guidance on when you are ready to sit for the exam
Why it helps
Seeing your results by topic shows you where to spend your remaining study time, and talking through problems with peers builds confidence.
The goal: exam readiness
Success, for us, means walking into the exam ready. You know the material, you recognize how questions are framed, and you have practiced under realistic conditions. CAMP is designed to get you there, but it does not replace your own preparation, and outcomes depend on your experience and effort.

The learning science behind CAMP
Two of the techniques CAMP relies on have strong research support. In a widely cited 2013 review of ten common learning techniques, practice testing and distributed practice were the only two rated high utility.
Practice testing
Testing yourself on the material, rather than rereading it. In CAMP, that means exam-style questions throughout class and an online exam simulator for additional practice.
Distributed practice
Spreading practice out over time instead of cramming. In CAMP, key concepts are revisited throughout class, and simulator access lets you keep practicing in the weeks before your exam.
Research supports these techniques in general and cannot promise a result for any one learner. The review itself notes they work best for people who use them consistently.
